I'm going to name drop a couple books.
Peak Mind by Dr. Amishi Jha.
She is a neuroscientist out of the University of Miami.
I heard her show on Duncan Trussell's Family Hour.
He had her on talking about
The work that she's been doing with a particular focus on training attention and the studies that she did with a Marine battalion that she did this training, like traditional mindfulness meditation techniques, pre-deployment.
And by only on average of like 12 minutes a day, that's all it is like 12 minutes a day.
and doing these exercises, it makes their focus and attention stronger.
Studies show that that's like a muscle.
You train a muscle, it grows, it gets stronger.
It's more resilient.
And our mind is the same way.
Like the neuroplasticity, you don't train it.
It's going to be loose, weak.
And those that received the training pre-deployment were more present.
Their stress was reduced.
in instances where they were like in a firefighter and attack, they're able to think through the problems and be more aware and present rather than like scatterbrained.
But like, more importantly, those that continued the practice when they returned, uh, were having less, uh, symptoms and incidences of depression, anxiety, PTSD.
Right.
So that, that really, really interested me.
