And so it really is noise.

There is an unfortunate drive to stop feeling like they're in trouble.

And if there's parents who need to spend a lot of time there,

That's a choice they make, but they are exchanging that for getting back to raising their child.

And the parents that are able to make that shift, the ones that are able to receive the help they need, either make peace with being wronged if that's where they stay or make peace with, I wasn't who I was supposed to be for my child and I'm going to now, no matter how hard it is.

They're the ones who we really see successful reunification with.

And the family is really when they can expand their social support and not be locked in shame and denial.

Because partly what has to happen is you have to be willing to acknowledge what happened and ask for help.

But if you can never acknowledge what happened, you're not going to ask for help.

The vast majority of parents whose children temporarily come into foster care or longer or even whose parents

parental rights were terminated, you'll never hear from the majority of them, right?

So we had 500,000 children at some point in the foster care system in the last reporting year.

And you can count the number of families who are out there talking to the media about what's happened to them.

The vast majority of families have children who have gone through this tragedy and have come out in some other situation.

Either they have done the hard work, they've recovered themselves so they can be the parent, and their child is also receiving really life-saving medical treatment or mental health treatment, usually an integrated care treatment, hopefully.

And then they get to be a family again.

but a healthier family and a functional family and a family they can be proud of.

And what I love about that is the majority of families involved in the foster care system, their goal is for children to have a loving family.

That's the goal of judges, attorneys, CASAs, foster parents, children.

They want to go back home.
