You know, I published our number three journals.
I'd done, I think, all the things I was supposed to do to get tenure, but I was too conservative.
Thankfully, my provost, you know.
read my appeal and decided to kind of grant me tenure.
But I did sort of experience at that other series of levels that a place like UVA was not particularly
Kind of interested in having a more conservative voice on the collegiate faculty at that point in time.
This is back in 2007-ish, basically.
Yeah, so I think we have to sort of understand that, you know, from a kind of broader social scientific perspective, I mean, there's certainly some people would want to argue that marriage is just some kind of like conservative Christian thing.
And of course, that's a rather actually naive comment.
Because if you look around, both across time and space, what you see is that marriage is found in I I think virtually every complex civilization.
From China to India, from Egypt to Nigeria, you see marriage kind of emerging or operating as an important kind of.
foundation, you know, bedrock for societies, um for complex societies in particular.
And so what marriage does is obviously a couple of things.
I touched on how it connects men typically to their children.
It tends to stabilize sexual relationships.
It organizes, you know, uh finances for families.
It helps to sort of give both women and especially men a sense of direction and purpose in their lives.
And so these are all some of the ways in which marriage matters.
