Where I know it's gonna start sounding a bit ridiculous.

We often think of classic psychedelics working serotonergically, um, and so impacting the serotonin receptors.

Um and there is serotonergic action with something like MDMA, but it doesn't have the same classic psychedelic effects as things like psilocybin, for example, or ayahuasca.

Um, people have referred to as an entheogen instead.

Um, that's a more common way to think about it, but it definitely has properties that would take someone into experiences that we might classify as transpersonal, so kind of exceeding the normal boundaries of human consciousness.

So um that's why there's a bit of a trick in defining them and why some people might not think of them classically as psychedelics.

Myth or fact,

Okay, so that is true, actually.

Um, it's quite an extraordinary thing about ketamine, is it's uh uh inherent antidepressant properties.

There's been quite a bit of research on that.

And um the mechanism of action actually with ketamine is quite rapid in its onset.

So yeah, I mean, that doesn't mean that it works that way for everybody, but it is act absolutely possible that.

that someone could have profound alleviation of depressive symptoms with ketamine in a couple of hours.

Uh partially true, depending on who you're talking to and who's administering it.

Okay.

Yeah.

So um there are a number of different ways to receive ketamine.

And some of those ways to receive it really lean into the biological properties of the drug itself and do not really focus on the subjective effects at all or harnessing those for therapeutic purposes.
