But we're looking at something here that could very easily upend our economy in a big, big way.
So you mentioned in your intro, there's a sort of straight line relationship between how much energy an economy uses and how big it ends up being.
You know, it's like a straight line on this chart.
And that's a really powerful chart because we've all grown up in an age of amazing energy abundance.
I'm absolutely thrilled with it.
I'm a conservative.
I would love for us to keep this prosperity we have.
But I fear that the people who are making decisions, they've lost that grounding.
They don't understand that.
I don't know.
They're like three generations from anybody who had dirt under their fingernails, right?
It's been too long.
So once we get grounded back in that, though, here's a simple thing.
The world was consuming just oil, just crude oil.
That's the tasty stuff.
We turn that into jet fuel, diesel, kerosene.
And deck gasoline.
And so that we were burning about 80, consuming, burning 86 million barrels a day before the war started.
And now we're missing for sure about 12 that's just missing, missing because they did some workarounds here and there.
Well, the question is, when was the last time the world globe was burning 12 million barrels a day less?
