So actually, there wasn't any real impact to the oil markets.
And here we are now today.
with inarguably not just the largest energy shock ever, but by literally whole factors, right?
So we had the oil embargo, starts in October 1973, runs till March of 74.
And what they did was they didn't stop selling to the whole world.
They said, I don't know why Norway's trapped up in this, but they said, we're not selling oil to the US or Norway.
I just don't know how Norway got tangled up in that.
And then what they did was they agreed as a group of OPEC nations or Arab nations at that time that they were going to reduce their production by 5% per month.
So by the end of the whole thing, the world was short 9% of its oil, right?
And that was enough to take oil basically from 370 a barrel to 33.
It was a 10-bagger, right?
And that created a huge shock.
And then we had the double wave of inflation that happened in the 70s.
And it took Paul Volcker coming out and ramming interest rates to 21% in order to pinch that second hump of inflation.
I mean, can you imagine what would happen if we had to fight inflation that way?
Yeah.
So there was a huge learning from that, and I believe that the lesson was, oh, if we can just keep the price of oil down, we can minimize the shock.
And so they're doing that, and the problem is, while they're doing that, the price is too low, even though it feels high, it's still too low to truly match supply and demand.
And so supplies are just being run down.
