And I'm like getting uncomfortable and it gets to about 10 seconds, maybe a bit longer.
And then he says something.
He says, that's the first time in two years that anybody has told me something positive about me at work.
And I thought, holy crap, that's awful.
That's just a dreadful thing for people to go through.
No reinforcement of the good stuff he was doing because the guy was amazing.
And it made me recognize that this is something that I could do with people and take and pay it forward to other people as well.
And I really enjoyed doing it.
So that was how I kind of got into him.

The interesting thing about performance management is usually the people that you're performance managing are broken.
And when I've had somebody take me in and try to performance manage me, it resulted in realizing what was going on in my world at that moment in time.
And they'd come in to all hard-nosed and ready for the fight.
