Look, depending on the situation, there's different ways that I deal with it.
Sometimes I actually find it comical.
Sometimes I actually feel pity for those that haven't had the opportunity to learn.
Like it really depends.
Like if I'm in a situation where somebody's been and had the opportunity to learn a lot and they haven't bothered to take that on board and they just remain ignorant.
then I experience frustration like anybody else in those moments.
But if I'm working with people who I can tell are curious but have never had the opportunity to learn certain stuff and they've asked me a question that's in their mind just a question that they want unpacked,
I'm not going to allow myself to be triggered by their curiosity.
I'm actually going to do what I can to help build their knowledge base.
And hopefully that then helps them on their journey moving forward.
I think at times, again, we allow our own triggers to potentially get in the way of us helping people on their journey.
educational journeys, their healing journeys, whatever it actually may be.
And I understand why that happens, because as I said earlier, sensitivity is built through exposure.
Yeah, we can't hide from the fact that these events
impact negatively on social emotional wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
There is direct correlation between the experiences of racism that people are exposed to and their overall social emotional wellbeing.
And I think the more that these events occur in large public gatherings or in very highly covered through media events, the more exposure actually occurs through that.
So more people are actually experiencing these things.
which I don't think is necessarily something that we've always had to consider in the past.
I think that the only way that, you know, as a nation that we can continue to move forward through this is to really look at how do we build some cohesion?
