And then the second part is imaginal exposure, which is where we teach people to revisit their memory.

And we have them to recount it out loud in session repeatedly.

And then we ha actually make tapes for them to listen to between sessions.

And so they'll listen to those as well.

And it really over this repetition helps the brain to process and store away traumatic memories again so that it's a memory rather than in PTSD.

Those symptoms feel like they're happening all over again with that fight or flight reaction.

And it's usually between eight and fifteen sessions.

All of these are done weekly or more frequently.

So the good news about that is we can get a course of treatment done in a very short amount of time.

And there's some evidence coming out to suggest that if we do what we call masked treatment.

where we're meeting with somebody twice a week, three times a week, and really working through those therapy sessions that the results may be even more effective than weekly sessions.

Absolutely.

And so one thing that I would encourage is there's this website called the PTSD Treatment Decision Aid, which is an amazing website.

It just got revamped and it has a lot of information about all of these treatments that I'm talking about.

And it lets people kind of go in and investigate and think about what treatment might be best for them.

And then they can take that information to a provider.

We think about two things.

We think about reduction in symptoms and then sometimes we talk about loss of diagnosis, where people fully not meet criteria anymore for those those disorders.

And so we'll see kind of different results sometimes across different populations.
