So one is exposure
relaxation and rescription therapy.
Which is like imagery rehearsal therapy, but with a little bit extra.
And we often use that one for people who have trauma-related nightmares, whether they're true replicative trauma-related nightmares that replay the trauma in some way, or if they're what we call symbolic or intermediate nightmares.
And those are ones that have the same themes or
the same emotions as nightmares, but it may not be a true director's cut replay.
And so it's kind of this sign that the body and the brain still haven't processed all of those those memories or those nightmares.
And so with those, we use exposure therapy.
And this is a place where
My colleague, Dr.
Nadorf, that I co-wrote the book with, and I have kind of a friendly disagreement.
And I think it comes from the different places that we work.
And so because I come at this from a lot of years of experience treating PTSD, I think you've got to do the exposure, which means having somebody to write out their target nightmare in a lot of detail.
And then we look within that target nightmare.
for where is the place where it gets intense or distressing or disturbing.
And we change it from that point forward.
So we kind of use the stem of the start of the nightmare and then make the changes as opposed to just writing a nightmare about some unrelated topic from scratch.
