But in that five minutes, you're going to have that down regulation of stress response.
You've got the tactile feel of what you're doing.
You might have colours or whatever coming into play.
But you've also got a sense of meaning that you're building something.
I think meaning and purpose are things we are really underrating.
at the moments in our lives.
We're focusing on things that are around like productivity a lot without actually thinking whether there's the meaning and a personal sense of purpose behind it.
And those things can sound really soft, but they are linked in with basically every biological and clinical outcome there is out there.
I mean, we see that people who've got that sense of meaning day to day have better functioning immune systems,
They have reduced risk of developing all kinds of mental and physical health problems.
I was actually in a meeting with some colleagues today who are neuroscientists who were saying they've actually found that the sense of meaning and purpose is really evidence in terms of brain imaging, how strong your sense of purpose is.
So this is something that has these deep seated biological effects.
And arts engagement is actually one of the most effective ways of increasing a sense of meaning and purpose day to day.
And it's something that's so simple to do.
Exactly.
And what's great is you've got choice here.
So I think the big thing is start off with some taster sessions.
So
sign up like decide you're going to have a creative month and you're going to sign up for a different taster session each week on something whether it's online video classes or whether it's going to a live group in the community or whether it's doing something where with a friend where you're both going to do it together and try and learn it and so that's a nice way for people to say like did I enjoy that session of crochet did I enjoy that drawing class or did I enjoy actually trying to learn to knit for the first time or doing some clay
That's a great way to start and actually figuring out if there's something that you really enjoyed and want to go back to.
