Some of these have been embedded for decades now.
For example, in Florida, there are actually an entire staff of artists who work within UF Shands Hospital on a permanent full-time basis.
supporting all aspects of care, working really closely with all of the clinicians who are involved.
There's a really embedded research program there as well.
So there's a lot of this work.
And actually, there are even clinicians now prescribing the arts to people.
This is happening now in nearly 40 countries worldwide.
You can actually get a prescription for the arts from your doctor.
I've been working on a project in the US over the last few years, which has had 23 different sites around the US where clinicians within hospitals or healthcare, primary healthcare settings have been giving people a prescription to go and do the arts.
And the results from it are so powerful in terms of showing these improvements in a wide range of mental and physical health outcomes.
But I think it's still not got that public awareness.
We ran a study in the US saying, well, um,
If you ask people, did you do any arts yesterday?
Only one in 20 US adults will say yes, which is insanely low.
Many more people, like four times as many will say that they did exercise yesterday compared to doing arts.
But when we said, if a doctor prescribed you arts, would you do it?
76% said yes, they would.
So I think we've really got to raise awareness.
Yeah, the evidence base is there about these benefits.
People need to know and they need sometimes that prompt to go and do it.
