So a forced marriage happens and Thetis marries Peleus, who was a hero on the Argo, Jason and the Argonauts getting the golden fleece.

So a man with good heroic pedigree, but still a man.

They have a wedding, everyone's invited, not just all mortals, but all deities, except one person doesn't make the list.

And that is Eris.

Eris as a Greek word means chaos, discord, strife.

And so literally, if Eris turned up at the wedding party, there's going to be trouble.

She learns that she's not on the invite list.

And so she takes a golden apple and inscribes it with one Greek word, kalistere, which means for the most beautiful woman.

Well, three goddesses at the party think this is literally addressed directly to them.

There's Hera, wife and indeed sister, let's not get into that, obviously.

Athena, the goddess of wisdom and of martial cunning.

And Aphrodite, literally the sex symbol, the embodiment of love.

Well, they can't decide between them who actually is the most beautiful woman.

So to settle it, Zeus says, let's find some yokel.

Let's go into the middle of the countryside and find a shepherd, and he can make the decision, because I'm not making it.

With my wife in the game, I'm not making that decision.

So there is the shepherd called Paris, who also happens to be a prince of Troy, but he's doing his shepherding work.

Maybe it's Duke of Edinburgh or something.

He's out there doing his thing.

And he is presented with the three goddesses.
