It's scorched in the back of my mind.
And Greg kind of turned to me and he's like, Dean, are you okay?
And my immediate reaction, legitimately, I said, oh dear, that's what I said.
And he burst out laughing and then he put his arm around me and he's like, welcome to America.
And that was literally the first day.
And then when I started volunteering at the museum the very next day of giving a tour, the guy who became one of my great friends even to this day, a chap called Levi, he's in, literally you can kind of picture it, like a Jeep-like style thing in Jurassic Park, that kind of Jeep.
He literally is playing the Jurassic Park soundtrack.
And we're driving up this mountainous region out to a dig site.
And it's just so beautiful.
Nothing like you've seen in Doncaster, right?
were you just in awe of it yeah yeah yeah absolutely loved it and driving up there it's like quite difficult terrain and then we literally it's in Jurassic Park slam the door out there and just pull back um these big sheets these big tarps and they've just got these dinosaur bones just sitting in like rock solid you know like concrete like rock and it's just that's the first time where you've actually I've had a chance to be on a on a dig site like that I'd collected fossils since I was a kid like but the first time seeing these things things I'd seen in documentaries and reading books and I was just like
this is it, this is where I want to be, this is what I want to do.
And yeah, I absolutely just loved it and embraced it.
What was the coolest moment out there?
The coolest moment I would probably say on, I think it was by the end of my first week, I was kind of tasked with going around with some of the, there was volunteers and a whole lot of students going around to various different dig sites that they'd been working.
And by the end of the first week that I was there, I'd actually found a massive femur.
So a femur, so a big thigh bone of a sauropod dinosaur, looked a bit like Diplodocus.
And that was, I remember it got picked up by the media.
It did, yeah, yeah.
About this kind of young lad volunteer from Doncaster, England, who'd found this giant dinosaur femur.
