I was up on top of the giant platform at San Lorenzo and got permission from the community that lives there to go out there and some of their representatives met us on the top of the site near that Red Palace. There was a tall gentleman, really tall, especially for that part of the world. Most people are shorter than me. This guy was like six inches taller than me.

I can't just take a story and be like, well, it's a wrap, boys. But why would this... Big Olmec descendant guy on top of the thing. Just tell me these random lies. What would his motivation have been to tell me the random lies? Is he stupid and just doesn't know what he was looking at? No. He's like a third generation guy. And I've met guys like him all the time.
Like when I was a young archaeologist, I'd be like, hey, Chip, tell me what to do. I know you have been an archaeologist since you were a little kid here. You know way more than me. This guy... Ja. Aber was auch immer es ist, es ist... Das ist einer von denen, die im gleichen Zeitraum wie Neanderthal gehören, aber eine andere Spezies?
Well, how many... Ich glaube nicht, dass wir das wissen. Wie viele Dinovian-Skeletone haben wir?
Aus einer wissenschaftlichen Perspektive ist das ein unnötiger Sampleset, um große Schlussfolgerungen zu machen.
Weißt du, was mich super überrascht hat? Normalerweise war ich in Physik-Anthropologie-Klassen. Das ist nicht mein Bag. Ich hasse Körper. Aber... I learned a lot of these, like, you know, Lucy is a one-off. There's not a whole lot of them. And I was disturbed by how, you know, what strong conclusions we were making about human evolution and hominid evolution based on such a small sample.
But there's one called Java Man, right? And he's actually Homo Erectus. And I went to Indonesia. And I actually went to the place where Java Man was dug up. And there's a big museum there. It's in the middle of nowhere. People were like touching my skin because I was white. It was a weird experience. But I learned... They didn't just find Java, man. They found 60. 60 Homo erectus there.
And there are more in the site that they believe they haven't dug yet. There's a strong, like, that one made me think, okay, we've got this Homo erectus thing. That's nailed. But it worries me when we have, you know...
Ich denke nicht, dass das eine Erklärung ist. Ich denke, wir, wir, wir dachten, dass, du weißt, Homo erectus, Homo habilis, all die, ich bin nicht eine physische Anthropologie, aber sie waren alle. Zwei verschiedene Spezies. Cro-Magnon ist anders als... auch Homo sapiens ist anders als Homo sapiens sapiens.
Was ich liebe, ist, dass wir Möglichkeiten finden, ihre DNA zu testen. Ich glaube, es war ein österreich-europäischer Typ, der Name Pabo, der der erste war, DNA aus einem Homo-Erectus-Skeleton zu extrahieren. Und das ist einfach, wo werden wir damit gehen? Es ist so großartig.
