So he's looking after the palace's pigs.
He is an enslaved person, so like very kind of faithful to Odysseus, faithful to the palace.
And Odysseus knows that, but he's obviously got to kind of test his loyalty.
So coming in as an old beggar, he basically asks for his hospitality.
And Eumaeus, who's, you know, one of the good guys, makes sure that he shows him good hospitality and gives him a nice little meal of some piglets.
Yeah.
Well, so he wants to, first of all, find out what's happening up at the palace.
So he wants to know kind of what's the situation with the suitors, what's the situation with Telemachus, with Odysseus' son, with Penelope.
And he also kind of sets up this false identity, as it were, of his past, which is one of what we call these Cretan tales.
Crete and Tales.
Crete and Tales.
Yeah.
So each of these, there are three different times where he pretends to be somebody from Crete.
The first time he's done it is to Athena because he wasn't quite sure who she was at first.
So he said one of these little lies where he pretends that he's got this background with Crete.
The second time to Eumaeus and then he does another one later on to Penelope.
Yeah.
He needs to get back and there's a serious kind of jeopardy here because Telemachus is obviously quite seriously hated by the suitors who want Penelope's hand and quite clearly want him out of the way because he's a potential heir once he kind of becomes a man.
So what's happened is he is now, he started off with Pelos, he then went to Sparta and on his way back, they are very much planning to ambush him.
And so he is in serious kind of danger at this point in terms of the ambush.
