She's had a bit of a detour on the way home.
It is.
It's a backstory.
But what it's also doing is it's also pegging itself into all of those other epics that would have been told about these figures.
So I mentioned that, you know, there were all of these other songs and poems circulating and these were called the returns, the nostoi in Greek.
And so basically, you would have had a return epic of Menelaus, you know, the king of Sparta.
You'd have had a return epic of Nestor.
And we get these kind of in miniature as Telemachus goes around.
He's almost collecting little epic tales of all of the Greeks and how they returned home.
Absolutely.
I mean, you can't talk about the Odyssey without talking about the gods.
And I think it's really important to remember, we start with a council of the gods, you know, trying to get Odysseus home.
So they are part and parcel of the return.
I mean, we have them popping up in so many different ways.
For the Odyssey, probably the main one is Athena.
She is the daughter of Zeus, goddess of war and wisdom.
And she really takes it upon herself to be kind of the proactive protector of
of Odysseus and making sure that he gets home.
And he really has quite a kind of intimate relationship with her where they have conversations back and forth and a really kind of strong sense of these being two quite similar characters, you know, goddess of wisdom and he's quite a cunning chap.
