I mentioned the men that he kills when he gets back to Ithaca, but he also loses all of his men.

You know, every single man who went from Ithaca with him to Troy gets lost apart from Odysseus.

So this is not really what I think we would call a heroic homecoming that we're going to see.

And you're absolutely right.

It's that moment of pride, what the Greeks would call hubris, which is where you've got this excessive pride that kind of leads almost to punishment by the gods.

And of course, that's exactly what happens, because then the Cyclops has the key piece of information that he needs, which is the name in order to curse Odysseus.

Yeah, well, he goes straight to his father, Poseidon.

It's good if you've got a daddy god.

And he asks Poseidon to curse Odysseus and his voyage back home.

And because he can name him, then Poseidon immediately knows who he's looking for.

And that is then the reason why Odysseus has all of these awful wanderings.

Plenty of storms, plenty of trouble.

Yeah, Poseidon knows how to stir up a sea.

I think the main one is Circe, the next one kind of in the voyage in terms of kind of those big hitters in terms of who kind of really matters for Odysseus' voyage home.

It's a very similar situation to the island of the Cyclopes.

And I think at this point, Odysseus and his men must be starting to feel that there's a sort of haunting similarity to these dangerous islands that they keep rocking up on.

But yes, they come up to shore and a party of them

Well, first they go hunting and they shoot a stag and that's all well and good.

But then a party of them decide to explore a little bit further into the island.

And they go up, they wander up into the island and they come across this beautiful palace in the middle of nowhere in the island.
