Um, and we see then when the uh English invasion happened, uh Heraldus Cumbrances, Gerald of Wales.
One of his um, as always, very interesting uh comments on the whole period was that it kind of served us right for being invaded because of our previous instances of stealing English people.
This was kind of divine, uh divine retribution.
But yeah, I think it's just
The fact that Irish people are
genuinely really, really interested in actually trying to delve down into kind of who we are and into our past.
And also the fact that we have a lot of resources which have been kind of untapped.
Um and we'll see with the current project beyond 2022, the virtual treasury, that a lot of resources which we thought were gone and which we thought in the the public record office in the Far in during the the Civil War
war that we thought those resources were gone.
And now suddenly there's a whole world of material becoming available again.
Um, I mean, there's a whole other discussion as to why a lot of Irish material isn't in Ireland, but that we can we can talk about that another time or why there's a lot of Irish archaeology which is in other museums, but that's, you know, that's a whole wider discussion about colonialism and all of that.
But um
Yeah, I think it's just an innate curiosity.
Um and we like to discuss and disagree about things.
You know, you can bring up any historical topic or, you know, any archaeological topic and and you'll find two divergent opinions and we like to discuss and debate it.
Well, the Friends of Medieval Dublin was originally founded as a very small study group, really in response to what was happening in Wood Key, um and to the excavations and the r the response of um Dublin City Council at the time.
Um over time, obviously when you know the the Wood Key episode uh ended
the I suppose the remit of The Friends of Medieval Dublin changed.
Um every year there's a symposium where Sean will bring together archaeologists and historians
