But that accumulates over time.
And actually, not only does that have a cost,
We're overriding our wants and needs quite often as a consequence.
So I'll often say to someone, you know, what might have contributed to where you're at right now?
And they may not even be able to answer it.
It's like, well, I wasn't good enough.
I wasn't doing enough.
But actually, when you really get to it, it's like, what point would you have slowed down?
What point would you want to say no to that social event?
And...
I don't know if I'd want to go or not.
It's just something you do, isn't it?
As if it's the first time it's been suggested.
So there's a cost of not knowing what you like.
Sometimes what is going to drain you in advance is a cost to not doing the things that might energize you and that you are going to get more satisfaction from.
So it's kind of really profound, the effect that masking can have.
That would be a version of it.
And I think it goes back to that point of burnout in itself does not have a recognised, you know, accepted diagnostic criteria because it's not something that we diagnose clinically, although it's clinically relevant.
So this is where the language, you know, maybe kind of, you know, we've got to be careful that we don't label things that might not be that.
