This is Julie Slattery, and this podcast is an outreach of Authentic Intimacy, which is a ministry that's dedicated to helping you make sense of God and sexuality.
Well, today's conversation is one that I've wanted to bring back for a while because it's frankly a lot of fun and it speaks into something that I think a lot of us are learning to navigate well.
How does our understanding of sexuality and our bodies, how is it shaped not just by scripture, but also by the unique cultures that we've grown up in?
I'm joined by two really delightful, wise, and honest women, Dawn Jones and Denisa Suarez.
They are both trained therapists, ministry leaders, and women who bring a lot of deep insight from their own cultural experiences.
You're going to hear us talk about how messages around sexuality differ from different communities like white, black, Latino cultures, and particularly the interplay of that within the church.
You're going to hear Don talk about how purity culture or the purity movement didn't exactly impact the black church in the same way that it did a lot of the white evangelical culture.
And Denisa opens up very honestly about the intense pressure around appearance that a lot of Latino women feel.
But in this conversation, we're going to go deeper than just talking about culture.
We're going to wrestle with some questions like what happens when women are both sexualized and silenced?
Why do so many women carry shame for things that have been done to them?
