And so then they come across
in social media and through friends, the word aroace, so aromantic and asexual.
So I experience an absence of romantic and sexual attraction.
And this young person who otherwise was feeling like she didn't belong, like she didn't really fit, feels relieved because, oh my gosh, finally, there's a word that might be used to talk about my experience.
At the same time, she comes to therapy and she's saying to herself, well, what if that changes?
What if in 10 years I am attracted to somebody?
What will that mean?
Does that mean I was wrong?
Does that mean it was a phase?
Does that mean my parents think I'm just doing what my friends are telling me to do?
So it can really be a complicated process where this young person who, again, has never experienced a crush, which could be for a lot of different reasons,
now has a framework for how to make meaning out of that.
And really in the online kind of domain is sharing, oh, yep, these are, you know,
This is how I identify.
This is what this is for me.
I'm looking for a like-minded community.
And that can be a way that that plays out.
And I think that, again, because it's disembodied, in some sense, it can feel confusing for people.
