You know, when people think about weight loss
A lot of people talk about calories in versus calories out, thermodynamics and the overall calorie calorie balance equation, which makes sense.
And I think that is irrefutable that you need to be in a deficit to lose weight and you know, you need to be in a surplus to gain weight.
I mean, no one's arguing that, but there's that's a very reductionist view of thinking about things.
And going back to what I was saying earlier, this kind of
nineties, noughties, and even now this misconception that it's about willpower and you can, you know, almost mentally, neurologically drive yourself into losing weight alone.
I guess we have the evidence now that forty to seventy percent of your weight and weight gain is determined by genetics.
There's also all these lifestyle factors and environmental factors as well.
You know, one thing which
Going back to the other thing I was talking about, exercise.
I guess again there's like this fallacy that people who have excess weight or who have obesity are not moving and not exercising, right?
They're maybe lazy, quote unquote.
And I've came across an interesting study where they they looked at the calories burnt by members of the Hadza tribe in Tanzania.
You know, they're miles and miles of foraging, hiking, trekking all day long.
They're always moving, but they're only burnt
burning around two and a half thousand calories a day, which is roughly the same as someone sitting in a desk job in London.
Yeah.
Also burning two and a half thousand.
This person in the desk job is likely having a worse diet and sedentary most of the day, but the Hadza tribe are more active, but they're both burning the same amount of calories.
So it's not just about exercise, right?
