There's actually only five mentions of that word
as we translate it in English.
And then, of course, there's a lovely verse in the book of James about caring for orphans and widows in their distress and true and pure religion.
It's actually that verse is celebrated every year.
We used to call it Orphan Sunday in November.
There's a Sunday every year called Orphan Sunday.
I never heard of that.
Yeah, I find that certain traditions practice it more than others or certain churches within those.
It's kind of hit or miss whether I talk to people who grew up with it or not, which is interesting.
But every year in November, it's practiced or celebrated its true origin on Sunday.
And we talk in the churches and celebrated about how great adoption is.
And as I was actually coming out of the fog, there was an Orphan Sunday celebration at the church I was on the worship team for.
And there was a prayer shared.
by one of the elders at the kind of top of the service, we all prayed as a group together about adoption.
And he literally prayed that parental rights would be terminated by the court so that children could not have barriers to being raised in good Christian families.
And I just
whoa i did not know what to do with that right but unfortunately there's there's so much religious indoctrination that it's a good thing to take kids from people who are bad and i'm using that word on purpose right um who we have been told are are not fit in order for them to be raised in good christian families but when i started looking at
who we're labeling with this label of bad, it's usually people who are dealing with temporary crises, like socioeconomic disadvantages and whatnot.
And so when I learned that, uh, from Dr. Sisson's research in her book, Relinquish, that as little as a couple thousand dollars could have preserved a family, it got me thinking pretty hard about who we label good or bad in churches.
