And I think our intent really trips us up when we're trying to actually look and assess impact and make sure that we're doing what's right for the adoptee involved.

And that ends up meaning that adoptees go erased and ignored a lot of the time.

So in my case, we were open only in the legal sense, meaning that vital information wasn't redacted.

I unfortunately never had a relationship with my mom.

She was sent photos and I think like a small blurb of an update every six months for two years.

And I'm still trying to get my hands on whether there was a written like open adoption agreement as far as what was going to happen with that.

But what I was always told was the agreement was for up to two years.

And then she had requested further updates when I turned three right before she passed.

And that was declined.

So it functionally closed at that point for good.

No, ours is private, just through a lawyer.

And in fact, it's interesting when we talk about coercion in my story, I kind of feel like people in common is even coercive.

So one of the reasons I became a physician was the family doctor who took care of me throughout childhood was actually my mom's doctor when she was considering relinquishment.

And he had been friends with my adoptive parents and kind of brought them to the same lawyer.

So I think people in common is a big conflict of interest there.

And that's he was always praised in my family for fulfilling God's plan by bringing them together.

But like, yeah, privately through a lawyer because of this doctor is where I'm going with that.

Yeah.

So hard thing to study, right?

Because it's pre-verbal for everybody involved.
