It's a constant challenge.

Sometimes we're in flow.

Sometimes we're in something I call calm before the storm where something good happens to us, but there's also something subjectively not good about it.

We get a job promotion, but our new boss is toxic.

I call that the calm before the storm.

All is lost.

That's where you get a diagnosis of cancer and you have to stop your job and focus on your health.

And then there's the birthing a new skill set where you

lose your job but you get an opportunity to write the book you always wanted to write and we're constantly in this circle of flow and all the way around and that's the heroic journey of life so that's really how i would say what i've learned from operations is focusing on where you are and what's the next step to serve what your goal in your life is i learned very early that i'm a servant

And so when I have an awful experience, I say, what can I do to make the world a little bit of a better place?

Nobody's ever asked me that question.

Very little of the didactic training that you get in neurosurgery is of the mind.

But as a reader and as a philosopher, I very much enjoy studying the science of the mind.

And one of my

One of my idols is Ian McGilchrist.

Ian McGilchrist is an amazing author.

And he wrote a book called The Matter with Things.

And he wrote another book, which is fantastic, called The Master and His Emissary.

And he talks about the right and hemisphere differences and how the left hemisphere wants to apprehend things in the world and the right hemisphere wants to comprehend things in the world.

And it really is like, I think to live a full life, you need to understand you need both of that.
