I'm hopefully an advanced student, an imperfect practitioner, but I think that's the key to greatness.
Well, I think skills need to be learned from deliberate repetition and pressure
I've learned a lot even since I've written this book.
I would probably say that pressure is, again, something that we need to eliminate from our lives because pressure is what other people think.
Pressure is what other people would say.
I will rewrite this book.
I'm working on another one now called Why We Quit, but I've learned even from this book that
Pressure is probably something that's not going to be the most productive thing.
Having simulations of what needs to be done I think is helpful.
So if you're going to do a debate, going to the room where the debate's going to be and imagining the people there, all that I think is very helpful.
In terms of teaching somebody a skill, if you can replicate the environment, we see it was interesting when we work out in the Princeton University wrestling room, sometimes the coach will have the crowd playing really loud.
to have the wrestlers experience the what it's like to be rehearsing what could happen exactly i think i would say rehearsing uh deliberately and and and multiple times is very helpful but thinking about pressure probably not helpful in getting better as a brain surgeon do you feel pressure or do you feel something else when you're about to operate
Every once in a while, it will creep in.
If I'm operating on a celebrity or somebody like that, it will.
And then again, you have to recognize it.
Again, you can't control your thoughts.
It's going to pop in there, but you can be in charge of them.
And so I say, look, I need to work on this person like they're a clock.
and like they're a person and integrate the two of those together.
It's a person and it's a clock.
