As the nerve comes off of the brain, typically what happens is a blood vessel nudges up against the nerve and it irritates the nerve and the nerve fires.
So that surgery to fix the trigeminal neuralgia is to go in the back of the head.
and go down to where that nerve is and move the blood vessel away and put a padding between the vessel and the nerve so that the vessel stays away.
Really?
And that's called a microvascular decompression.
