Ultimately, for a lot of the people who are experiencing gambling issues, they have a sense of it in themselves.
And maybe some would benefit from having a formal diagnosis for a number of reasons.
Others maybe don't need that so much to recognize that, hey, I'm just in this thing with gambling.
I'm trying to overcome this thing with gambling.
Let's see if we can figure that out.
Whether that's through clinical treatment, therapy, counseling, coaching, whatever the case may be.
When you look at what's happening with gambling in the DSM itself, I think what's interesting is they used to call it pathological gambling.
That's what they used to call it, the previous diagnosis.
Again, just think about that.
I'm so glad they don't call it that today, but just think about that.
If you have a diagnosis of pathological gambling, pathological associated with the person, that to me just doesn't feel right.
Maybe those listening would feel the same way.
How do we even ever use that language to describe it?
People usually handle that when they're in that situation by looking at ways that they can get money, borrowing more in most cases than they've already borrowed so that they can try to re-gamble that back.
That's the default.
That's the, oh, this is the way that I'm going to handle it.
