Now you might have the first one and say, okay, so explanation, that means where I explained my way out of it.
No, you're explaining that you understand the offense you did.
So it's not an explaining like to justify it or anything like that, but it's about saying, okay,
So showing the listener, I understand what has gone on here.
I have a clue about that.
And then after that explanation, acknowledging responsibility.
I mean, you could do that first and then do the explanation.
But as long as the ingredients are all there, make sure you also offer a repair.
So what does that mean?
If I spill your cup of coffee at Starbucks, I probably buy you a new cup of coffee.
Yeah.
But the key is not so much what the exact ingredients are, although I think they settled on some pretty good ones that would be a good guide for us, but to also just show you're doing some work.
So the opposite of that, why we don't like those bad apologies we were talking about a minute ago is they just demonstrate no reflection, no ownership, no understanding.
It's like, sorry, you have a problem.
That's the weakest thing you could say to somebody.
It shows no self-reflection, no awareness of either the hurt or your own behavior.
It's like extremely empty.
Right.
And I think I, the tricky part here, I think sometimes that trips us up is when we each are responsible.
So I think there's moments where we both maybe did a bad thing or we both maybe said some words we shouldn't have said in a conversation.
