We recognise that there's a housing crisis.
However, as I said last night, there is only one Dundalgan.
It is one of the most important sites from a mythological point of view in the old kingdom of Ulster.
It would be on a par with Awamaka, with Navan Fort.
So yeah, like every time a development is proposed, there's going to be archaeology, right?
Because Ireland is a carpet of archaeology.
But we are talking about a prestige site.
We're talking about a site with a huge mythological importance.
And then there's the whole amenity of it, the setting of it.
Nicola, as a local, has expressed that very well.
You know, there are beautiful views up there.
You can see all the way to the Morne Mountains and the Coulee Mountains.
And you can see Sleave, Gullion and all the rest.
You can overlook Dundalk Bay.
And it's surrounded by fields.
And it's got this beautiful rural setting there.
which could be turned into an amenity if it was looked after correctly.
What the plan envisages is surrounding it at a distance of 50 metres by this huge development, including apartment blocks, which will rise to the same height as the top of the mound.
it will completely alter that precious landscape forever.
Once it's done, you'll never be able to undo it.
