So the way that we typically measure dehydration in the body is by a percent of body weight.
So if you're one or two percent dehydrated, it's not a huge amount to be dehydrated, I think people probably feel, but like...
that's going to increase your heart rate because your blood gets thicker, right?
Because there's less water in it, right?
Right.
So it's more concentrated, your blood's thicker, and then your heart has to pump harder to move that blood around your body.
It's not a huge amount.
It's maybe three to five beats a minute.
you average that out of a whole day, that's thousands of extra heartbeats and extra stress on your heart that you're putting just by being dehydrated.
So I guess there's two components to that.
One is the water.
How much do you drink?
So the recommended amount is around two litres a day.
And there are different ways that you're going to lose water for the body.
But that's pretty much standard is around two liters a day.
But that doesn't mean you should only drink two liters a day.
For example, today's hot, right?
So we're sweating.
We're losing more water.
So you're going to need more.
