How are you proactively positioning Penn Medicine to continue to be globally influential and relevant when some of these folks are trying to take part of the business?
One of the things that I have found really inspirational in thinking about Penn's journey over the years is that you all have really pushed yourself, it feels, to be ahead of what you see is coming, right?
You take a very honest view, you know, no rose-colored glasses, and then you plan your moves in advance.
I'm wondering, like, how did that happen?
Because I think it's tough sometimes for teams to do that, right?
Looking forward, it also feels like the relationship between clinical leaders and administrative leaders is going to become even more important to be in complete lockstep.
Talk to me a little bit about how you're doing that at Penn.
You touched on this at the beginning, but there's also a change that you alluded to that you see in clinical training that's needed.
Can you say a little bit more about what you think you're foreseeing in the future coming?
Kevin, having been in your role for some time and also having really worked your way up through the Penn system over decades and seen different leadership styles, what advice do you have for clinicians who are near the beginning of their career but might want to be in a leadership role in an AMC going forward?
it's hard to imagine a place that actually meets all those criteria more than, you know, one of these top AMCs like Penn Medicine, right?
You know, where you find that mix of mission, multiple missions, really people who are just so passionate about their individual jobs and the questions they're asking individually, but also to your point,
the ability to weather if you choose to.
And I think that's the challenge for a lot of leadership teams around the country right now.
I'd love to ask also in a different vein, what asks would you have for payers from your seat as the CEO of a large academic medical center?
Kevin, I should have asked you this question at the beginning, but I'm going to actually end with this question.
Tell me about the journey that brought you to your seat today.
