The eye is the only place in the body where you can actually look at blood vessels.
You can look at nerve tissue.
So you can see the real pathology directly, not through lab tests, not through imaging.
The surgery is very elegant.
It's microsurgery.
It's beautiful surgery.
And patients are extremely happy.
You know, we're talking about cataracts.
They come back, they bring you chocolates, and they're delighted.
They hug you because you're helping them see better.
So many things.
Yes, that's true.
So I was working at the NIH.
And, you know, it's interesting, the Ebola virus, like many viruses, after people survive it, it can remain dormant in the body.
And we really needed to understand this better because people who had survived the virus were having many difficulties, including vision problems.
So we went there.
We set up a clinic through the NIH, National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and studied thousands of patients who had survived Ebola and many who hadn't had the disease so we could understand comparisons.
