People not in the criminal justice system have a truth bias.
So we tend to believe what people tell us and police officers have a lie bias.
But perhaps we're just better because most of our interactions sort of are honest.
Maybe we're better at that, but we're not actually clear why.
But we are terrible at detecting lies.
So my theory is this is an evolutionary evolved thing.
Well, you think about it for a second.
If everyone around you could tell every time you said something that wasn't true, how would your life be?
I love your haircut.
You don't look fat in that.
No, I'm not looking at other people.
I never fantasize about anyone else.

Right.
Lying is social niceties in some sense, sometimes, you know, not always.
And we lie all the time.
