We've talked about this a lot recently.
We know that most organizations only train charge nurses to tackle operations.
OK, but they forget that a charge nurse has two primary roles.
operations, and people.
We teach them the operations, maybe, how to make assignments, how to do admissions and discharges, okay?
And all those things that keep the flow going.
We know this.
Think about the emergency department.
Oh my gosh, think about the pit.
the TV series, you know, and the role of the charge nurse in keeping everything flowing.
They teach them that, but they fail to train them on the people role that they also have, which is equally, if not more important, how to handle conflict and arguments, how to give someone feedback, especially to someone who's struggling without shaming them, okay?
If you tell a brand new nurse,
When they ask a question, I can't believe you don't know that by now, they will never ask a question again.
And that's a patient safety issue, okay?
So here's the good news.
