So the very reason we're doing the work, those small wins we start to lose.
So if you've got emotional exhaustion, distancing, loss of joint work, you probably are burnt out.
And there'll be quite a lot of people here will fit that because we know a lot of the NHS population and health and social care population does.
A lot of the professional population does.
So that's burnout.
Now, if you stay in burnout for too long, and burnout does have different levels, you'll move through from mild, moderate to severe, it's a continuum, you then stand quite high risk of moving into other things, which are perhaps more traditional medical diagnosis, like anxiety or depression, or even physical health problems like high blood pressure.
And if we're thinking then about the kind of high performing depression, so which I think means depression, but kind of putting a mask on and continuing at work, you're then looking for the depressive symptoms.
So you're then looking for things like, has your mood been low?
for most days for the last couple of weeks.
And also you're looking for other symptoms coming in, like those kind of thinking symptoms, like guilt coming in, shame coming in.
And also one of the things people tend to recognize is physical symptoms.
So their sleep goes off, their appetite goes off.
They tend to feel worse in the morning sometimes.
And sometimes those hopeless dark thoughts start coming in, very common with depression.
so there the symptoms are different is what i would say the initial approaches for both are quite similar which is about building up your support network getting those decompression activities in but also with depression you'd be thinking much more about actually let's start some therapy quite quickly and do come through forward support if you've got those depressive symptoms
but also would an antidepressant help and things like that.
So similar approaches, but with depression, you'd be wanting to kind of add some additional things in too.
I think probably...
if it's a partner it's probably enough to know that something is wrong and whether it's burnout or depression that's pretty that's bad the person will be feeling terrible and it will be affecting them so i think be pleased with yourself that you spotted that
And be brave and ask them how they are and listen and then link.
