We are diverse.
The human species, we are not all the same.
We are all different.
And what unites us is our differences, not our sameness.
And in the society of homogenization, where everything has to look like the cover of, I don't know, I don't want to disparage a magazine, but the glamorous magazines, we all are expected to look a certain way, to be a certain way.
Children need to develop passions and win prizes at an early age, or at least to excel in some sort of
sport or have a focus or adopt orphans in Haiti of their own idea or some crazy, crazy notions about what children are supposed to be doing.
It's insane.
And they're all supposed to be beautiful and get straight A's so you can glow and you can brag.
And I'm sure you have experienced, as I and listeners, being in groups of parents who
maybe inadvertently are bragging.
And bragging can go subtly like, oh, the school is so easy.
They really need to give more homework.
My son has nothing to do at night.
It's like, right?
That's an inadvertent brag.
And it's shaming.
So you mentioned shame.
We have to bust the stigma of shame.
Our children, your children, the children I work with every day, they have a right to this world.
