The AMA produces this book of codes, of which there are over 69,000 codes to choose from.
The government alleged, we chose the wrong code on five charts, five patients, and we
out of over 100,000 that we saw in that timeframe.
Okay, they picked a six or eight month timeframe, I can't remember.
And they said, they found five charts, five individuals.
And by the way, healthcare fraud is typically like billing for stuff that doesn't happen, right?
You know, like the stuff in Minnesota, billing for things that didn't actually occur.
These were real patients.
The government never alleged otherwise.
These were patients who were seen in our clinics by nurse practitioners and PAs.
They got treated or they got tested, but the government said, you picked the wrong code.
And I had a perfectly reasonable rationale for the coding that we used.
And we had a third-party coding company, by the way,
that we hired to do our coding.
And I didn't even see any of these patients.
The nurse practitioners and PAs did.
And if you really break it down, we were billing what's called a level four code.
I don't want to get into it.
It's not really worth it.
But the next lowest level is a level three.
