That's just asking for trouble.

If they're hurting, they're not gonna milk as much, the calf's gonna be smaller, and then your coal value's gonna be so much less on those thin cows.

So pulling the trigger early on, particularly feet and leg issues is

Critical if you've got other issues from mastitis or something like that, I think it that's another one that'll take some condition off those cows and produce a lighter weight calf.

Always have your base and standardized kind of program.

And then I think you can make decisions on individuals within that.

But if you're historically culling cows at ten years of age or whatever, maybe you reevaluate that, like it was in your scenario, that nine year old cow, good teeth, can't afford to keep her.

The underlying question is, do you have enough forage and resources to do that?

And if you don't, then you don't want to start feeding them and get sloppy in your management is what I'd call it, where you're actually spending more money on these cows than you should, as we've mentioned earlier.

So you have to keep your plans for replacement females, whether it's retaining heifers or purchasing

from a consistent source, keep that in place.

Best you can.

And I know some of us can't get the heifers we want because we don't have the resources right now for drought or whatever it it might be.

But as best you can keep that source and that opportunity available to you.

And then stick to your culling criteria.

Where I see people get in trouble when they get really far off their norm

And these high markets then that can kinda come back and bite you.

We can tweak it on the ends a little bit, but I think we have to really stay with the core principles that got you to this point.
