So part-time working does very much account for this, but it's also the the knock on and the the implications of that.
So what I mean by that and what they articulate in their report is that implications of less than full time working have that
effect on women's ability to progress into more senior roles that traditionally pay more and as the report indicates, these are often held by men who are older.
And so it's it's again, it's that kind of melding pot of different factors.
But yes, in answer to your question, it part time work has a major factor in that.
We first started the project in twenty twenty four, so it was an eighteen-month project and it was funded by the National Institute for Health Research, specifically the Health and Social Care Delivery Research Programme.
And it was to undertake a realist review, as as we've discussed to mention yet, to to identify the conditions in which women GPs can thrive in general practice.
And so the approach that we were taking, a realist review, what I mean by this is it's essentially an approach to reviewing existing evidence.
That allows us to move beyond simply saying kind of what the issues are and what the potential solutions are, because we interrogate using the particular methodology, looking for patterns to explore what works, for whom, how, and under what circumstances.
So you're bringing together
a whole body of evidence to identify those patterns, you're looking for the the kind of generative causation which allows you to make that inference qualitatively based on the evidence.
So
our role was to bring all of that together and we reviewed over a thousand documents there, seventy-two of which were kind of really core to our research questions.
And also what I chose to do with the study was overlay a theoretical framework of thriving.
So this is a concept that's been predominantly used in positive psychology and organizational psychology, where it has over two decades worth of research and evidence.
And and I guess my
reason for wanting to have that theoretical framework is
I wanted the study to have something hopeful and aspirational to work towards as well as exploring the existing conditions too.
So we had five key questions that we set out to achieve, including so what are the mechanisms acting at individual team, organizational and societal levels that affect women GP's health and well-being, performance and career progression?
So they were our three kind of core outcomes that we were very interested in.
