High performance, the the people who do it, they think differently.
They're able to connect dots that other people don't yet see.
Where other people stop because they're stuck and they just can't go on.
That's when you bring in the high performers because they bring it home each and every time.
They're the ones that you can count on to always get it done and think bigger and innovate and just always be there when you need them.
I think it might be obvious, but because they're so obvious, they tend to be relied upon more.
And as a result, they get overlooked.
Yes, because they're so good, we can't promote them because who's going to do their work the same way and at the same level that you are doing it?
So you get overlooked for those stretch assignments and those choice committees and those promotions.
You essentially have the curse of competence or the competency tax that you just referenced because the high performers are
So quick to learn new things and so quick to adapt and so quick to train the next person, they're actually penalized for being so good.
It seems odd, but part of that is also on us because for the the high performers, the way we've been trained is be humble, do good work, keep your head down, and the good work will speak for itself.
Well, I'm here to break it to you.
It does not because the leader who is looking to move things ahead is so busy trying to do their work.
that they don't see something unless you are pushing it in front of them.
And there's tactical ways that you can do it without seeing like you are trying to constantly grab a spotlight.
But this is what's been happening throughout the workforce.
Learning quickly and you are fast to adapt to it, there's a tax.
It's almost becomes a curse that you might be held back, where some of the less competent people who are doing a lot of hand waving and smoke and mirrors might be the ones who are moving forward because they made their word, their work visible.
So what's happening is what is getting
