I mean, there's no real commitment to the common good.
This is just people trying to win.
And this is a problem on the left too.
I mean, as you know, I was very critical of leftist identity politics and so-called wokeness and the way that bent democratic politics.
And I certainly hope we're recovering from all of that.
And I think we will have to fully recover
from that to to reliably win in in 2028 uh because i think the country is is properly allergic to to the extremes we reached on the left uh but it's um i mean the right you know and and it's not even right to call them conservative now just the mega personality cult uh and you know and you know populism on the right is ascendant now and and we're dealing with the consequences
Well, on some level, both are true.
I mean, I guess I'm surprised by my
seemingly bottomless capacity for surprise, right?
Because on paper, I anticipated a lot of this.
I mean, I've been worried about Trump and Trumpism for a decade.
And I certainly saw how corrosive all of this would be of our institutions and of our political conversation, our ability to cooperate and coordinate on any important project.
But I just again, the details are always shocking.
Right.
What what people will put up with, what people will justify, what people will will avert their eyes from.
I mean, all of that continues to be shocking.
I just don't know where the line is for Republicans now.
I mean, I really think that the line may not exist.
I mean, the line I'm talking about is just what could Trump do?
