You know, a certain activist class just distorting our conversation about politics.
I mean, this, you know, you would think that's on purpose.
But Don, this term proportionality means something else in the context of a war and the international laws that govern war and the philosophy of just war.
Proportionality doesn't mean you kill the same number of people that your attackers killed on your side.
I mean, it has nothing to do with that.
It just has to do with whether or not
a certain military action is strategically advantageous enough to warrant collateral damage.
So if you're going to kill a million people to kill one combatant, that sounds morally insane and not proportional.
But it offers no suggestion that the numbers of dead should be the same on the two sides of this conflict.
Israel has an existential burden in fighting Hamas.
This is far worse than 9-11 for America.
It's worse proportionally when you just look at the demographics.
Per capita, it's like al-Qaeda killed 40,000 innocent people in Manhattan on that day and abducted 8,000 hostages.
So that's the proportional situation.
But what happened to Israel is, in fact, far worse than that because even if you scaled up 9-11 for America—
it would never have been an existential threat to 300 million Americans.
Hamas really is an existential threat to Israel.
