They probably should also have like a theoretical orientation that they're practicing from.

And again, that's going to vary depending on if you're working with a social worker, a psychiatrist, a psychologist, an MFT.

So there's just like so much again, like training that goes into it.

And another stark difference is that I think friends, even though they are, I think a lot of the times trying to remain as like, quote unquote, unbiased as possible, like they still have a stake in the relationship with you.

They don't want to hurt your feelings a lot of the times and righteously so, they're your friend, right?

They're looking out for you.

And a therapist isn't necessarily going to hurt your feelings.

But again, they should be able to be in a position where they can challenge you and

And offer an outsider perspective, right?

That also I think sometimes like friends can't.

We're kind of looking at things from the outside in.

And I think that that is really helpful for people who are feeling stuck versus getting input from somebody who has a lens of like seeing them in their day to day life.

Yeah, I think a lot of it will be based on the past and then some of it will be based on the present.

So usually one of the first questions that I ask is, you know, tell me what brings you to therapy now.

What is it about what you're experiencing that is making you want to seek help in this present moment?

And again, that gives me usually like a good picture of like what is happening in the hearing now.

Oh, well, it's because I can't sleep well.

Or again, I keep dating the same guy over and over again.

I just went through a breakup.

And then I'll ask questions more about the past.
