are to say as much of the extra stuff that doesn't have to do with learning, how can I as the teacher design my instruction, design my classroom in a way that mitigates for some of those things?
We can't mitigate for everything because we know our students are thinking about things that
have nothing to do with us or our classroom and we certainly can't control they're hungry.
We can't control that.
Um, we might not be able to control our environment completely.
It's noisy outside, they can hear the kids at Rhesus, they're distracted by that, but I'm asking them to think about maths.
So um we can't control everything, but what is in our sphere of influence at the moment we can be really mindful of knowing a little bit about our students' executive functions.
Right.
Right.
Yeah.
You can fight it or you can say, let's all take a moment.
So I a few months ago, I remember I was teaching and my kids were looking above my head and I finally was like, What are you looking at?
And there was some kind of fly or something flying around.
the windows are behind me and I said, okay, let's all stop and say hello to the fly.
Have a great day.
I'll swat it away because I knew I can either fight this and and fight for their attention or I can acknowledge the fact that
This is near impossible and I'm asking them to do something really hard.
So let's just take a moment to acknowledge that.
So it's I again, Emma, I love talking to you because you just get it.
Yeah, exactly.
