Um, can I

switch between tasks without some sort of disruption.

So that's why transitions in primary years are so important because it's hard for our students to switch mindsets very quickly.

So executive functions are are critical.

Are they not, is that not a term that's used where you are?

Okay.

And I do know I'm actually working on a project with Cambridge right now and they are putting out some great um information for practitioners on executive functions and, you know, what we need to consider in the classroom using this knowledge to sort of professionalize our decision making, to anticipate choke points for our students.

But even here, everyone has heard of executive functions, but if you ask them what they are, you will get a slew of varying definitions and meanings.

You are right in the sense that a lot of people discuss them in the terms of skills or behaviors.

And so coming from the empirical evidence, I always start by saying they are cognitive processes.

However,

We can't see cognitive processes, so we look for these associated skills and behaviors as a proxy.

for understanding if our students are struggling with um working memory capacity, if they are struggling with

inhibiting impulses or inhibiting distractions.

If they are struggling with things like um

Self-regulation, getting along with peers, sharing, compromise, things like that.

So um yeah, there are definitely
