you know, behaviors that we want to see that I always say they're kind of sponsored by your executive functions.

But the book is more about this is this is a knowledge that is for you to use to then go ahead in your space and say, now that I know this, I can look at this problem differently.

Or now that I know this, I might want to modify some of my routines or even change my classroom setup.

So things like that sort of in a

preventative

way of um supporting teachers.

Well and you know, getting back to Tom's original uh request to sort of provide a general overview.

Executive functions are I mentioned their cognitive processes.

There's six cognitive processes and they're broken up into two groups.

The first one being core, which is working memory, inhibition, and cognitive flexibility.

Those are emerging until late, um, until I would say like preteen age.

So they're still very relevant for our primary, even our upper elementary students.

In fact, they're relevant for all of us because we rely, we as humans, we rely on these processes.

why they're extra important for our teachers of the little ones to understand is because they're in development at that time.

So this book specifically focuses on the core, those three, the which are the foundation out of out of the successful orchestration of those three, then come the higher order, which are um reasoning, planning, and problem solving.

um, more sophisticated, you know, like thinking ahead of like, well, I know I'm gonna go here later on, so let me rem remember to bring this.

I mean things that that we as adults even struggle with.

But uh that's why this book focuses on those three core is because they are what our students are in the midst of developing.

So we have to keep that in mind when we are making decisions about the learning experience.
