She had had various antidepressants, CBT, but she came to see me and she said, something's not right.
I'm feeling overwhelmed all the time and that's affecting my mood.
And I think that's why I've been, been diagnosed with postnatal depression.
When you looked at her on the surface, she was quote unquote high functioning or low support needs, right?
So she had a successful job, married, good house, kids in good schools.
She looked like she was doing really well.
But when we scratched under the surface of it all, the home life was a lot more chaotic.
So there was missed parents evenings, which she felt horrendous about.
She got the dates and times wrong.
There were late school forms that need to be done.
Children were wearing school uniform on Mufti Day when their men are wearing casual clothes, right?
Which is a big deal when you're at school, actually, for the student as well.
She was constantly running late for work, constantly apologizing.
The home life was a bit messy in terms of her husband had a very sort of highly successful job working a lot of hours.
But he felt like he had to pick up a lot of the slack in terms of household chores and that it wasn't a 50-50 split there.
So that had a strain on their marriage.
But the worst bit about it was, and this is when she came to me, she felt like a bad mum.
So she'd look at all the other mums and say, they can get the basic things done and I'm struggling here in a way that I don't understand.
Also, her maladaptive coping mechanisms that she had before...
You know, when you have two young kids, you can't do the last minute PowerPoint presentation to the exec board the night before.
