ADHD, it's just not on the radar screen.
They don't know anything about it.
They've heard of the term, but they don't say, well, that's me.
It's just a membership, you know, anything other than the name and the fact that it's usually mentioned in a derogatory fashion.
So, you know, sorry to interrupt you.
I always start with some basics, good grounding, and that is accept the kid you've got.
Don't have in your mind something you want to make that child into.
It's not gonna happen.
One of the things that was, again, decided science
is that parenting does not produce ADHD.
Parenting does not produce emotional dysregulation.
Your parenting style, as far as we know, has no effect on the development of RSD.
So parents are officially off the hook.
I mean, that was one of the big productions of the MTA study back in the late 1990s.
So parents, now you can make matters worse, but you don't cause ADHD, you don't cause emotional dysregulation.
So you basically accept the child the way he or she is.
Don't try and change them.
Let's face it, that's just hostile.
You're saying, I don't like you and I'm going to change you to suit me.
And something is, be the parent
